Biography

Born in Bergamo, he started studying singing with his father Vincenzo and then continued with mezzo Biancamaria Casoni. In 2009 he won and attended a masterclass to make his debut as Colline in Puccini’s La bohème with Orchestra Rossini in Pesaro; in the same year he was the only bass in the finals at the Concorso per giovani cantanti lirici della Comunità Europea “AsLiCo”, for the role of Colline.

He immediately started a brillant career which has seen him appearing in many of Italy’s major Opera houses (Teatro alla Scala, Regio di Torino, Opera di Roma, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Comunale di Bologna, Regio di Parma, Carlo Felice di Genova, Bellini di Catania, Massimo di Palermo, Verdi di Trieste, Lirico di Cagliari, Donizetti di Bergamo, San Carlo di Napoli, Filarmonico di Verona) as well as abroad (Carnegie Hall in New York, Hong Kong, Tenerife, Lugano, Royal Opera House Muscat, Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Malta, Astana, Limoges) in a wide repertoire ranging from Mozart (Leporello in Don Giovanni, Figaro and Il Conte in Le nozze di Figaro, Publio in La clemenza di Tito) to Rossini (Selim in Il turco in Italia, Mustafà in L’italiana in Algeri, Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Gessler in Guglielmo Tell, Alidoro in La Cenerentola), Donizetti (Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor), Bellini, Verdi (Banco in Macbeth, Ferrando in Il trovatore, Pistola in Falstaff, Moser in I Masnadieri, Wurm in Luisa Miller, Il Re in Aida, Monterone in Rigoletto) and Puccini (Simone in Gianni Schicchi, Colline ne La bohème).

He has worked with important conductors such as: Abbado, Armiliato Arrivabeni, Battistoni, Bernàcer, Bisanti, Chailly, Domingo, Ettinger, Gatti, Gelmetti, Luisi, Mehta, Montanari, Noseda, Oren, Palumbo, Renzetti, Rolli, Santi, Steinberg, Zanetti, etc… and directors such as: Abbado, Carsen, Dante, Grinda, Hermanis, Krief, Livermore, Mariani, Martone, Michieletto, Nucci, Poda, Pugelli, Ronconi, Scola, Spirei, etc…

He is also very active on the concert platform, having performed at Teatro Sociale in Bergamo and Como, at Festival MiTo, at the Ljublijana Festival, in Aquileia and Sarajevo with Teatro Verdi di Trieste in Rossini‘s Stabat Mater, as well as Beethoven‘s Ninth Symphony. In 2009, for the “Haydn International Festival” he sang Mozart‘s Spatzenmesse at the Wiener Konzerthaus. His sacred music repertoire includes: Bach‘s Magnificat and Hohe Messe in H-moll; Mozart‘s RequiemVesperae Solennes de ConfessoreSpatzenmesse and Kronungsmesse; Schubert‘s Mass in G major; Fauré‘s Requiem; Franck‘s Les sept paroles du Christ sur la croix.

He has recorded: Il Ratto dal Serraglio, Mayr‘s Amore Ingegnoso and Donizetti‘s Maria de Rudenz for Bongiovanni; Andrea Chénier (Roucher) and Madama Butterfly from Teatro alla Scala on dvd.

Among his recent and future engagements: Rigoletto conducted by M° Gatti and directed by  Damiano Michieletto at Circo Massimo in Rome and at Teatro San Carlo in Naples; La Traviata at Teatro Bellini in Catania in movie version for Sky Classica HD; La Cenerentola (Alidoro) at New National Theatre in Tokyo, directed by Emma Dante in Bologna, at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova; Les vêpres siciliennes (Le comte de Vaudemont) at Teatro Massimo in Palermo conducted by Omer Wellber directed by Emma Dante; Luisa Miller (Wurm) in Bologna; Carmen, Tosca, La traviata and Domingo in Verdi Opera night at the Arena di Verona; Carmen and Samson et Dalila (Abimelech) at Teatro San Carlo in Naples; Le nozze di Figaro (Figaro) at Teatro Bellini in Catania; Tosca (Angelotti) in Tel Aviv conducted by M° Mehta with Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, at Teatro Massimo in Palermo and at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; La bohème (Colline) in Tel Aviv and at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova; Werther (Johann), Il campiello (Anzoleto), Stiffelio (Jorg) and La cenerentola (Alidoro) at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona; Verdi’s Messa da Requiem and Turandot (Timur) at Teatro Verdi in Trieste; I vespri siciliani (Il sire di Béthune) directed by Emma Dante in Bologna and Naples; I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Lorenzo) at Teatro Massimo in Palermo conducted by M° Wellber for the opening of the season; Attila (Leone) at the Verdi Festival in Parma.
